Hello frens. I would like some advice about building a chicken coop in southern california/hot and dry climate. Anyone with experience with this would greatly appreciated. This is the coop I am planing on building:
http://www.simplesuburbanliving.com/2016/03/how-to-build-simple-suburban-chicken.html?m=1I'm not married to this coop, I just want something with enough room (and a run) for 4 chickens. I know ventilation is a big thing, but this coop doesn't seem to go into it all much. I'm worried about keeping it properly cool during the summer months. Should I add windows along the top under the roof? And maybe on the other side? I've read that having drafts can be bad during freezing temperatures, but we never really get that low.
Also, in regards to pressure/heat treated wood.... do you think it would be ok to only use treated wood for the base of the coop only? And then use non-treated wood for the rest? I'm not too sure about what the best practice is for my climate. Like I said, it's usually quite dry and not humid here. I guess if I were to use regular wood, I would have to use some sort of stain to protect it, right?
