>>115335For hardening I use pic related - it's a pretty simple forge made from an old gas bottle. A pump for an inflatable mattress goes at the end of the tube. I use coal or charcoal, whatever is available in the bags for barbecues you get sat outside petrol stations. Some stuff burns hotter than other stuff (can't remember what though) but so far everything has got it hot enough to quench.
For tempering I use
