Also for pic related, I know I have mentioned this place on /out/ but maybe not in these threads. This is the cabin in northern WI, on a crystal clear lake and it's so nice up there. 7mi from the nearest tiny town. Damn bears.
He told me one of the scariest encounters tho was years back when his grandpa was up there a lot. He heard knocking at the cabin door, opens it, and mama bear is there scratching with 2 cubs right by her. He slams the door, runs in for the 12ga, comes back out and luckily she ran off after he shot a few into the air.
They're just black bears so you don't need to go full .50cal but you don't really want to wander around without some type of gun. Even when we were kids up there like 10 years old we would be armed. Kinda funny to think about that now but his grandpa also taught us hella gun safety
