I would love to start a homestead as well so I would like to see where this thread goes.
I think that this guy has a pretty good start up plan (Considering hes probably not a larp as its actual advice)
>>2016387One of the things that I would think about would be surveying your land to see what the soil type and nutrient deficiencies are available. Unless you already have a soil map for the area, but basically hike around and get to know your land. Take a blank map and get a simple soil kit to test your soil deficiencies. If your artistic maybe color in your own map to match with the test you have so you can see how your soil changes throughout your land. Take observations and see how water would drain in a rainstorm and how soil would move with a slope if its there.
Basically get to know your land and start a mental map on how you would like it to progress, where you would want to farm, where an apiary would be, what places would get the best light for which types of trees, start to research on the types of trees and their needs. Make those scouting trips with the since this would be a family endeavor.
Note, this is a shot in the dark for me but is one of my plans, also start a compost pile or three like the other guy mentioned, you'll need it once your done mapping or planning
