They get funnelled into tourist traps, but as I have tried to explain to you these are not the only places you can hike here. If your entire country is covered with hiking-worthy ways (most of them gravel I admit, though dirt paths exist) you can easily avoid them.
I will admit, if you want real wilderness, you have problems in europe. But let's be frank here, the vast majority of people going outdoors do not seek it, not in america either. I've always been content knowing that the next village is just a few km away... but I don't see or hear it, so whatever. And on the flip side, the european countryside has quite its own appeal. I was hiking recently, 4 hours walk through forest and meadow orchards. In these I encountered three masoned wells, an old castle and an old monastery. And I could have gotten something to eat at the monastery too.
