If you get a small vegetable patch set up and have a good knowledge of wild edibles and take an air rifle to hunt you can live off the land pretty well.
If you work for a while and buy even an acre of land you could make a small cabin/hut/wikkiup, but since you're illegaly living on there you will always have to be ready to pack and move somewhere else if you get caught.
This can be done better in northern england or scotland, there are few areas of southern england where somebody could live like this.
You wouldn't even need a shelter, you could live in your car and store all your valuables in it. If someone kicks you out there is no need to carry jars of food on your back, they are in your car.
You should have a good knowledge of preserving food, jellies, jams, salting, smoking, etc.
You would mostly be relying on small game, if you illegaly owned a rifle or hunted with a bow you could kill larger game, but there is more of a risk with that
