and we started camping (as winter boots, with two pairs of wool socks) and while I rarely were them anymore (too tacticool)
they're still in great shape, as my dad made me rub them down every year with mink oil ("money doesn't grow on trees!")
and more importantly, made me _break them in_ walking around the neighborhood before I wore them camping.
Chippewas are excellent boots and hell for stout but their old style construction and materials means they don't "give" like
synthetic boots and thus need a period of break-in before you wearing them camping.
