Germinated with ease after direct sowing into little mounds 1ft apart. Required a bit of water until it grew to a couple feet tall, afterwards needing no water except the celestial rains. One day, I noticed some discharge coming off the corn-like leaves and flies attracted to it. Tasting t reluctantly, I knew it was sugar, and next thing I know, a metric shit ton of aphids spawned in out of fucking nowhere. The plant then decided to grow out the seed head and the plant did not give a crap about the aphids on its leaves. The days past and a massive colony of ladybugs and lacewings started swarming, mating, and laying eggs on the leaves. My sorghum patch became a ladybug factory, and larvae were hunting everywhere.
Once the seed heads erupted in pollen, honey and bumbles spawned in as well, creating a vivid ecosystem. In addition to that, egrets and other birds hunt in the patch for flies. I’m now waiting for the seeds to mature so i can assess its food grade for bread or porridge. Chewing on a peeled stem, it tasted no different than sugar cane, except a bit softer. I plan to make syrup out of the canes once the seed is reaped.
Guys, why didn’t anyone tell me this shit? Niggers in Africa have it easy. Sorghum needs little water, little nutrients, and it still manages to provide two food products, and produce enough sugar to discharge wastefully, creating an incredible natural environment. The mulch beneath it is literally fucking white-speckled with all the aphid molts and bug shit.
If this isn’t permaculture then I don’t know what is. Easily the best crop for the homogenous white ethnostate and the diverse agrarian insectosphere.
And the leaves can be used for fucking livestock fodder...I’m literally shaking
