tfw I just wanna start building my dream home/life already.
Honestly I think setting up the homestead would be the hardest part, but if set up right, with good design you can let nature do most of the work for you.
Like using no-till, back to eden/mulch/woodchip gardens for crops. Right there you don't have to do the backbreaking work of tilling the soil every year, whether by hand with a hoe or via tractor. This also means your soil doesn't get compacted which is great for plants and great for pulling weeds easily.
Eliminate need for irrigation as the mulch locks in moisture. Also designing plots in the form of terraces with the addition of swales (irrigation canals) minimizes need for water input, except for starting a plot.
Animals can drink from a pond. No more replacing animals' drinking water.
Hedges can feed the animals and simultaneously help protect them. I wouldn't rely solely on a hedge though, unless it were huge.
It's all about trying to design a self-sustaining ecosystem and maintaining a proper balance.
That just leaves chopping firewood and harvesting
