Pros: pride of making cool gear, easy to do by yourself online with low overhead, there is a niche for SUL backpacking gear and most of it is really easy to make with a consumer-grade sewing machine and fabric that is readily available online, people will pay top dollar for simple silnylon tarps and backpacks, and for ultralight down quilts
Cons: Can be difficult to get your name out there at first, interest can wane as the small community in your niche buys everything that you sell and doesn't need anymore (need to innovate to keep up interest), any fluctuations in the prices of materials can devastate your profits
