Whittling is not an essential task, and cleaning game is more dependent on ability to take an edge, and the geometry of the blade itself. An Opinel wouldn't be the first knife I would take into the wilderness, though it would get the job done, and there are other options that show how cheap folders are plenty capable of being decent workhorses.
