Any reasonably-sized portable radio is a line-of-sight radio, regardless of power and antenna on it.
I've done ~50 miles on my 5W 460MHz portable with a stubby antenna... top of a tower on the top of a mountain, to another tech on another tower on another mountain.
Same radio has trouble going 1/2 mile if i'm around the corner from the receiver and there's rock in the way.
Baofengs are shitty radios, they're $30 for a reason. They're great at being cheap, and they've lowered the cost of entry into amateur radio.
More power won't get you a proportional increase in range. Remember, they're all line-of-sight radios.
