But having lighter line, and a lighter rod, it lets you cast one of those little baits a lot further. It's a mass ratio thing. If you use weed whacker wire to tie on a 1/16oz jig it won't cast very far because the line is heavier than the jig is. But if you put on 1 lbs test the jig is significantly heavier than even 20 yards of line. So you can cast it way further. That flimsy flexible tip also helps you whip the bait out there. This also has the added bonus of the rod and line being more sensitive like this anon says
