>>235512I compost on ground I'll be planting in since I'm always expanding now. Before that I'd compost on open ground and till it in at the end or beginning of the season. I compost everything except animal products like meat and bone because that takes longer. I want to get into some biomethane generation, but open ground composting is the easiest way to do it and I already get free gas. If I ever get a greenhouse running I may use up the free gas rights too much each month and need to do some biomethane digestion.
I have a cellulose area for composting (paper, scrap wood, branches, etc) that isn't for anything in particular. I've entertained the idea of making a hugelkultur out of it, but that would mean moving everything inside my fenced area to protect it from the deer. I still have lots of raised bed space to fill and using one of those as a hugelkultur might be a neat experiment next season.
