Threads which begin as "if you could only choose one _____ for the rest of your life" are simply annoying
These questions make sense if you are talking about choosing a profession, religion, location or partner, but when dealing with something as simple and as inexpensive as a knife, it is a truly inane question.
There are simply too many variables.
Would you choose one pair of shoes, one shirt or one pair of pants for the rest of your life? Would you wear these while hiking through a steamy swamp, while hanging around in town trying to pick up some tail and then again on a snowy mountaintop?
>no you wouldn't
Variables.... They matter!
I don't see a single knife posted which would be useful for removing a splinter and I encounter splinters far more frequently than I encounter the need to trap varmints or convert an bunch of saplings into a soft hammock.
I own a number of knives and the two I use most frequently are my 2" plastic pocketknife (cost 50 cents) and a folding saw that fits into my back pocket.

It makes more sense than this entire thread
