im on the west coast. i dont know about "metro parks" as far as other ideas i always liked the national parks and the national forests. generally speaking, national forest recreation areas are ALOT more relaxed than national park campgrounds. I like both, but in the national park it seems like its common to have rangers coming around lecturing you on rules and asking to see your permits and passes.
in the national forest its less of that but still nice inna woods places to camp .
