Labs are naturally god-tier when it comes to /out/door activities, my parents have an obnoxious, unruley dog that acts like an idiot when you walk him on a leash in the city. but get him into the woods and he stays about 15 feet in front of you max on the trail, and constantly checks to make sure hes not too far or on the wrong path, stops at forks in the trail etc.
Our last dog was a lab/ridgeback/mutt and he acted the same way.
