Deep water at night freaks me out pretty good. Deep water in general, the kind on crystal clear lakes where you look down and just see black because the lake is too deep for light to really penetrate it is fucking freaky, especially while looking at it in a canoe or kayak. At night though, it just reminds me of every story about people being dragged to the depths by some monstrous fish or squid. When I was a kid, my friends would go tubing or jump off boats in the middle of the water. I would just nope my way out of that. I love swimming, but I'm always still super uncomfortable when I can't see the bottom of the section of the lake I'm in.
