Though I'm no expert, I do believe that this hatchet will do me well /out/doors. I did also get a sharpener known as 'The Puck', and was successfully able to sharpen the edge to razor sharpness. I was shaving hairs on my arm with it. My only complaint is that the sheath can be pulled off when fastened. Not sure how to go about remedying that situation.
