I would say to take it slow, take lots of water breaks, and bring rubbing alcohol in case of heat exhaustion. If you notice excessive panting, just stop for a bit until it goes down. Don't use the rubbing alcohol unless necessary because it's actually so effective at cooling dogs down it can actually cause shock. If your dog is having a heat stroke you want to rub the alcohol on it's paw pads; it evaporates very quickly, which helps cool the dog off.

This one is a severe case but even the GSDs that breeders claim they sell to k-9 units (which they very well may) often showcase adults with roach backs, sickle hock and cow hock.
