Greetings sc/out/s.

I just wanted to an opinion on pic related. Aside from the price, all the reviews I've read so far have been positive. I have a bag for extended trips (7+ days), so I'm looking for an EDC/weekend trip bag.

Any positive or negative input?

It would be nice to have a built in bladder, however as long as there's a compartment which could be used as water storage that would suffice.

I use a CamelBak Fourteener pack. great for an overnight. i attach my bag to the straps at the bottom. 3 litre bladder. Great straps and belt clip for long hikes or trail running if ur into that. good water resistance. ive never had to use a pack cover. enough to fit everything i need for an overnight or day trip.

C'mon, you could use a $10 schoolbag and never know the difference. Arcteryx Blade, Tactical Tailor Urban Operator, Camelbak Hawg, and others, are all comparable and half the price.

Normally I would agree with you. However, I'm a field engineer on large scale construction projects. So I'm on site performing layout/checking installation/doing QA & QC type stuff all the time. So I want something that's comfortable and durable for activities like hiking/climbing forms/etc, yet able to organized shop drawings and update submittals.

It will get plenty of use, so I want it to last. I've gone through about a bag every 6 mo. for the past 2 years.

In that case the GR1 could work out in the long run, as long as they are good on their word of replacing/fixing them no questions asked. There are undoubtedly better climbing/hiking packs out there (that don't weight 1.5kg when empty for starters), but no one bag will ever do everything.

not OP but Im looking for a bag for similar purposes. I feel like OP would like to purchase this bag, and never worry about beating on it because a, it can take the beating and b, on the off chance it doesnt, it can be fixed..

OP here. Yes I'm currently leaning towards the GR-1, but I would really love not having to spend $300. So, if there are other bags which can fit the bill I would like to check them out.

I have used a north face recon for almost ten years now. The newer ones are not as sturdy but the only thing that has happened to mine thus far is one of the zipper pulls frayed off. I bring mine hiking, just going places during the day, and its my carry on when I fly. I have put it through alot and I bought it for <100$ new.
That being said, this may not have been a helpful post at all, because I wouldnt know where to purchase an old version of the north face recon.

I've also cleaned it by throwing it in the washing machine. It really has held up to alot of abuse.
