hello /out/, im looking for a nice place to get away from everything for a few days in illinois, anyone here have any recommendations?

Basic run down.

Northern Illinois - Jo Davies County. The driftless area (where the last glaciation didn't hit). Also, Galena is a nice historic town but can be a tourist trap.

Central Illinois - Corn. Although Starved Rock State Park is nice.

Southern Illinois - The Shawnee National Forest, Garden of the Gods, the wine trail and the Cache River for lazy canoeing.

There's this place in Rockford called Atwood. It's a park that has 334 acres of forest, they rehabilitate birds of prey and they have old bunkers from wars. Aside from forests they have marshes and prairies.

bump. Living in chicago sucks, used to fish a few places where I could enjoy being left a lone but now more and more annoying people are coming around. Any place like 2-3 hours away from chicago? Doesn't matter if it's IL, WI, MI, or IN

Where were your spots? I fish in the city (almost entirely on the north side) and aside from at the big lake I rarely see other people.

I am thinking of branching out though.

Im sure you know to go to preserves on weekdays. Weekends are garunteed to have too many people wandering around. Theres this decently big preserve by orland park. I went on a weekday and ran into only like 4 people over the course of two and a half hours. I was able to hang out by a lake all alone, and it was far enough in that all i heard was the wind and birds. But if you want to never see a single person, i think youre either going to have to get lucky and go on an especially slow day, or just get as far away from Chicago as possible.
