I find myself going to google earth quite often and looking for remote places to live. Typically northern canada or the wilds of argentina. Anyone else here /map explorer/?

I have such a hard-on for northern Canada, I wish I could spend time in Wood Buffalo national Park or Nahanni national Park. I was lucky enough to live in Alberta for years and spent a lot of time exploring it a ton, I've almost been to everything province now and spend a lot of time looking at maps.

I´m map exploring remote (arctic) islands very often.
Also the Russian far east is quite nice.

Yep, often stare at travel pics taken by random people in remote places, e.g. bears fishing in east Siberia. Or research facilities in Antarctica. Or baboons bathing in North Japan. Or shipwrecks and gletsjers on remote Islands.

Really helps to get away from it all mentally and fantasize about exploring.

Strange to be attracted by the loneliest places on earth when you´re lonely yourself.
The Himalaya is also quite nice.
Sometimes I use the Earth flight simulator and fly over the mountains with the F-16.

Controls are a bit odd.

You probably know it already, but if not, definitely check out Kamchatka Peninsula with Kurile Lake and Valley of Geysers, etc.

Look around with street view in Google Maps and pick the point in the middle of the Kuril Lake. There is only one, so should be easy. There are also a few along the banks which are nice too.

I do this too

Always trying to find a 10 mile by 10 mile square of land without even so much as an access road in the USA.

My qualifier is it has to be forested with a good climate, so I've only found a few spots.

no really this is seriously all I do with my free time, I have hundreds of bookmarks of panoramio shots and photo spheres of cool places on google maps

I like looking for natural areas in random states and obscure foreign countries, then going on wikipedia and reading about the geography, natural history, flora and fauna of those places. Ive been deep as fuck in this kinda stuff

Me too! I also enjoy reading up on exploration stories, or stories of a shipwrecked ship or one that got lost or something like that and use google maps/earth to track their journey as well as read up on the areas and their history like you said.
