germinating them in the compost pile has had mixed results for me, but I had better luck putting them in the fridge in wet paper towels inside baggys. about 50% of them grew, but out of that, half of them didn't make it past the first year... and this is under "ideal" circumstances, potting soil, constant weeding, regular watering, plenty of sun... I can only imagine what road runoff would do to apple seedings when so many of them just keel over and die within the first season
Normally I would just use cuttings but I'm able to sell baby seedlings at the local farmer's market when they get to be about 6 or 7 inches tall. fucking naturalists are all over that stuff. lemon tree seedlings too
