I'm on vacation next week.
Will be alone.
Own a kayak and camp gear.
Live in Dayton, Ohio.

Dying to get out. Might pick a lake and kayak camp. Would like it to be legal. Any suggestions or alternatives? Not more than half a fays drive at most. Thinking of researching Hope lake in Hocking.

Please help, I don't know what I'm doing.

Looks like it's a state park with camping restrictions, and it's Ohio, so apparently you can't be seen consuming booze (what the fuck is wrong with you people? But whatever).

Really looking for any pristine lake in south half of Ohio or areas of Kentucky, west Virginia or Indiana that border south half of Ohio and allow camping off shore, even if it's 100 yards in. I don't really drink just want to get out a bit and try hammock camping for the first time.

But OP, if you're going by yourself, and wanted to go to Lake Hope anyhow... I recommend just paying for one of their pre-designated campsites.

I know a lot of outdoors-folk give people shit for using campgrounds, and I'm guilty of it too. But they're not a bad thing. You get water and somewhere to charge your cell phone. And you're that dude with his kayak and tent, happy by himself in the woods--it's a good hook for having people come up and want to be your friend.

Wilderness camping is awesome, but all camping is awesome. If you just want to be /out/, there's nothing wrong with being that way in a public place with other people.

Op here,
There is a great local outfitter that hosts overnight trips in a metro park. The guy running it seems pretty cool and keeps suggesting them. My fear is that it will be very hokey, gear queer or alpha daddy and his kids.

Has anybody been on one of these types of things?
Otherwise, I'm just asking for suggestions for clean quite lakes in my region, preferably with lax camping rules.

im on the west coast. i dont know about "metro parks" as far as other ideas i always liked the national parks and the national forests. generally speaking, national forest recreation areas are ALOT more relaxed than national park campgrounds. I like both, but in the national park it seems like its common to have rangers coming around lecturing you on rules and asking to see your permits and passes.
in the national forest its less of that but still nice inna woods places to camp .

A metro park is smaller than a state park. It's a wooded area set aside usually with about ten miles of trail sometimes more or less. Sometimes built around flood levies. People usually use them for trail running etc...

It's part of a National Forest too so I can legally camp so many yards off shore.
