Sure, I'd love to visit some of your renowned national parks and set up my tent somewhere (wild camping is illegal here, just like 'bout everywhere else in Europe) but it pains me greatly that I just can't go /out/ during the weekends.

I kinda feel you despite still having some decent /out/ here, much due to having sweet beaches. But there isn't anything closed to wilderness, I have hard time admitting it but I get a bit jealous when Americans, Canadians or Aussies post their trips middle fucking nowhere and their huge ass hiking trails.

due to recent storms. So the boys and I will

Can you go to France or Germany or is it too much trouble on weekends? Never been to Europe but I've heard it's easy to travel between EU countries and the public transportation is supposedly good. I get why you wouldn't want to spend 8+ hours on travel during your weekend though. If you ever decide to visit the vastness of North America, post on /out/ and you could probably find anons willing to recommend good areas and even give you free lodging and transportation when you're not camping.

I've only been to LA a few times, but the obligatory answer you'll get here is Joshua Tree National Park. Also supposedly Angeles NF has been cleaned up somewhat from the way it was 10 years ago, but there are probably other anons here from LA who can say whether it's good or whether you'll get run over by drunk thugs while trying to hike.

The field I'm going into is outdoor documentary film-making so I could end up anywhere in the world, but Massachusetts will always have a special place in my heart. If I make enough money I would seriously think about retiring somewhere on the New England coast.

of a fire getting away from you. 1 in 7 years
we get dry enough that wildfires are possible.
even then mostly just the under story burns.
Mature trees might get their bark singed.
I'm not downplaying the horrors of a forest fire
like what happened in Memphis. We haven't had
anything similar since 1964. Also tinder doesn't
build up in my woods like it does out West.

Honestly if you're far enough out in the boonies (i.e. NOT near an established road or trail), you'll likely never encounter another person. There might be the occasional off-trail hiker or hunter, but anyone with any authority hardly ever leaves roads or trails.

The mid inland section of Queensland is mainly grass lands or dry forests which is what we refer to as "the bush", as it gets closer to NT it becomes more and more desert like

The southern half closer to the ocean have have more hills and are less dry

The whole central section is just desert
