I use them for camping or canoeing type stuff when kneeling or sitting a lot because they're reinforced at the seat and the knees and don't have butt pockets. Good ones should have plenty of strong belt loops every 4 inches, stud type snap fasteners and not riveted buttons, no zippers except maybe the fly. My Fjallraven Vidda Pros also have slots for foam knee pads, adjustable ankle straps and boot hooks. So far they've held up well everywhere except the knees.
