made up for this
>>1025343 day by going out today and catching me a couple of small stocked rainbows on a trout magnet
>Leave mid afternoon (because baby stuff and all)>go to river to see if I can properly break in this rod I got on some slightly heavier fish>notadamnthing.jpeg>far too many kayakers as well>head into shop and make small talk with local dood that does some serious fishing on the river nearby>ask him about crappie>nogo in the area this time of year bankfishing (might get lucky though)>mention how Im just trying to catch a new species>get on good terms>tells me juicy spot for smallies>intrigued.png>ask a bunch more>part ways>get ready to leave and the dude comes back and hands me a lure I can have>an old heddon spook, about 2-1/2 inches longhead downriver to try again at trout, see one hit but miss my 1/8 white roostertail
>decide i need to be more subtle with all the fishing pressure from others earlier that day>throw yellow trout magic drifting and twitching it>land 2 tiny trout later, one with the yellow and one with a brown+red flake>leave and decide to try the new spot I was told>use a Southern Pro Minnow Tube to land pic relatedmy 1st ever rockbass and smallie
>Holy shit I love small mouth nowThe rockbass gave up within a few seconds, I couldnt even tell initially that he was hooked
The smallie fought harder than rainbow trout 3x its size in the swift current it was in.
And it felt nice on an ultra light with 4lbs test, I can only imagine what a 2lbs+ will give me
Had to leave early after 30 minutes of being there (again baby stuff)
Will definitely be back.
