I don't know, but I lived in UK for 2.5 years for work and I often went to Snowdania, Lake District, and Peak District. WOnderful places. Really stunning. Absolutely love the countryside in UK.

One hike I went in peak district (or walk/trek as Brits call it) and i was along the ridge and to my left was all green and to the right was all white from freshly fallen snow. So magical.

THen you get one after a long day of walking out in the wind and cold and stop at a pub and have a nice bangers and mash and a pint.

I really love traditional british culture.

Yeah there's no other place I'd sooner be than here in the midlands.
Been offered tickets all over the world from my farther work and "family" holidays but, fuck em, I walk in the peaks once a week with a friend and my two dogs and it's enough for me and I get home each evening to my own bed.

So any UK peeps lurking?

Not very remote, never more than 3, 4 miles from a farm or a road.
I don't go for the remoteness though; just to be in a forest or sat by a river where you can not see or hear anyone or thing to do with humanity is good enough for a few hours.

How far up North?

haven't been much to the peak district but went last summer on a hike up kinder scout near edale (pic shows you the route).
Took longer than expected but on a nice day has a pretty special view of the quaint villages from above, and if i recall the route i took involved a pretty long and exciting scramble.
Probably day hike possible but campsites in the valley are all solid

Kinder is a big fucking plateau with some great views from its edge. From the middle though it's like you're on another planet.

My OP picture was taken at this point of your picture. The mound going up to the right is a start to the edge of Kinder.

yeah it's pretty awesome up there, last time i went there was so much fog so i couldn't see shit but that kinda made it all the more interesting, you're absolutely right though it was like another planet.
I might have to try the route in your OP pic when i next get down there, the scramble i was referring to (now I've remembered its name) was called crowdon clough, if you haven't taken that route i'd recommend it, it's quite an interesting route up

Yeah we did that a few months ago, and yeah when you get to the top of there after all that nice waterfall and greenery, you stand up and look around, it's just flat black heath with a few big/tall rocks.
Awesome might do that next week.

If you google LadyClough, there's a carpark layby kinda thing just pass the Snakes pass pub on the A57, cross over the road and go downhill. It's only an hour walk if you stomp it but it's fucking beautiful and good shit to see and just stand and admire the views. If you look under the bridge to the South East you'll find my first ever treasure hunt tag.

I go wild camping up on Kinder Scout pretty much every week. It's a spectacular view to wake up to. I went on Friday night and slept in a bivvy bag. Beautiful clear night, watched shooting stars until I fell asleep.

I /out/ in the peaks quite a lot, my gf and I hope to move there soon. There are loads of great walks on Kinder, I'd also recommend Mam Tor and the other half of the Edale skyline as well as Stanage/Bamford edges and the Roaches.

Pic related was Kinder this January, maximum comfy.

I found a lass on CL the other month, turns out to be mental and can't really "walk".
This other lass is kinda biiiig around the hips at least and says she's not "worth it", so fuck her to. I'll find someone.

My first proper walking experience with my gf was a circular route from Wetton to Dove Dale and back. Got completely lost twice and it ended up taking eight hours. Next time I came equipped with GPS but my phone died and we ended up lost in the middle of Bleaklow (after spending two hours wading through ferns taller than us along a footpath which didn't exist). Loved it though.

Hi, Manchester Bong here. When you say The Midlands, do you mean Birmingham, Coventry etc and if so, do you travel to the Peak District?
I have decent access thanks to a good train service, so I'm hoping to start going /out/ soon. I used to go lots of places with my ex girlfriend like Monsal Trail, Lyme Park, Padley Gorge. They're not exactly proper /out/, but they're nice enough.
I was thinking of joining a walking group as none of my mates like walking, but I need to get some gear first.

I travel there, I'm kinda between Nottingham and Sheffield takes about 40 minutes to get anywhere.
Monsal Trail is boring but if you walk the path at the bottom of the train line, along the river, fuckin' stunnin'.
Gritstone trail to the South of Lyme Park.
Not done Padley yet.

Everyones got there own idea of /out/.
Mines a two/three hour walk sit down and eat in that three hours. No fucking ropes no fucking tents just a good pair a boots and food and some shit just incase the weather turns or a twat breaks a leg.
