The FWD aren't terrible or anything, but the RWD are heavier duty.
If you find a good one don't pass it up simply on account of that.
FWD ones are more compact too.

Never met one that didn't start on half a turn, even in the cold. And run forever.
Extremely noisy though. You'll hear it run from 18 houses down with the TV on.
That rust isn't new and won't pass MOT.

You also lose the stealth of a panel van because it's obviously a camper.
Otherwise its a decent option. Get him down to £1,200.
Any van that's off the road without MOT isn't worth the risk of paying more than £600 for.
Spares aren't that expensive, but the labor cost really tacks up.
