I like practicing my survival skills, but I've never had confidence that I'd would be able to find enough food if I were in an actual life or death situation

How do I live off the land, /out/?

Short term survival:
- learn fishing
- learn trapping
- learn hunting
- learn wild veggies/herbs/berries/shrooms
- eat bugs

Long term:
- learn to salt/dry meat/fish
- learn to make jam out of berries
- learn to preserve vegs/herbs/shrooms
- stockpile seeds for easy garden veggies, learn to make fertilizer/compost

Just today I finished a 4day wild-herb course at a local vocational school that specializes in nature stuffs. I got a similar course scheduled for shrooms and berries this fall.

Speaking of drying meat, Is this jerky OK...? My first attempt, it's been dried 6 hours and stored inna cabinet.

Looks like fat, and other pieces are leaner and still look OK, I'm just not sure

Looks pretty bad annon...

Trim as much fat as possible before dehydrating. Fat is what makes your jerky go bad quickly.

You should also stick to the leanest cuts of meat possible. I've had good luck with top round.

with enough equipment and yeast, but it probably won't taste good. you could probably get moonshine but don't expect some delicious forest-honey mead or wild berry wine

The marbling of fat through it is not a positive sign. Go for top round, reiterating anon >>1039089
Doesn't mean it's bad Jerky tho it won't last as long due to the fat but is still perfectly edible, might want to refrigerate however.

Pro Jerky tip: mix honey with bbq sauce and spread on Jerky half way through drying
Pro Jerky tip v2: just buy bacon and trim the fat for low effort jerky

If you do it without the appropriate permit (which is dirt cheap) yes. There's a quantity-produced limit before it's no longer considered personal consumption, and the second you sell a single drop regardless how much you produce it's considered commercial production.

That being said, unless you're making hundreds of gallons a year or selling it the odds of anybody caring are pretty fucking low.
