Bought ENO based on your recommendation.
Figured it'd lighten my pack and maybe let me use smaller bag.
Wanted to try it out before buying accessories, took to park and took a nap in it.

Anyway, I take a poncho tarp with me anyway. Anybody know any reasons why I shouldn't just pic related?

Nobody is saying you can't do that. But if you're in a windy place, but if you don't like the KERRUFFARFUFFARUFF of the poncho in hard winds and its less than perfect waterproofing as well as its somewhat small size and resistance to damage, then you can buy a tarp or rain cover that works better for those purposes.

never mind even the cost. I saw one of the tarps weighed 22 ounces, That's a lot. My poncho weights 7.4 ounces and I carry regardless.

Check out "Jakpak" stuff. you may be able to do a DIY of that sort of thing, or at least it can give you an idea that you can incorporate into your stuff.

It's essentially handmade, and the company has very low production numbers, which is why it costs that much. You can make these things yourself, but a pyramid design like with a hood for your head, and everything works and is ergonomic is not easy for a first-time DIYer, or even a 10th time DIYer. At least it's not the $330 people routinely pay for MSR Hubba Hubba tents, and then they'd still need to buy their rain gear and a pack cover/liner.
