>>1054699I haven't noticed any real difference in casting distance with 1/4oz + plastic. I actually like throwing that more on the MH. I go down to a 1/8oz on the MH all the time, but there's definitely a noticeable difference then.
Either way it's not so much about casting distance as it is getting easier hooksets. Especially on the end of long cast and when using big hooks like on jigs and chattermemes.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you can't do any of that with a medium rod, its just easier to get solid hooksets and actually catch the fish with a MH. I have a M rod that I use for open water t-rigs, but I only use thin wire hooks.
The downside is if you like the fighting part of catchin a fish, a MH will feel overpowered. Moreso if you mostly catch >3lb fish.
I don't care so much about the fight as I do about getting the fish to me and then letting it go. That's why I prefer the MH.
Also, you should try frogs over open water around shade lines or just when the fish are shallow. Shit can be killer.
TL;DR you'll definitely get use out of the MH, but there's nothing wrong with a medium if you don't wanna risk not liking a heavier rod.
>>1054700I've bent out Gamakatsus with 20lb braid and ~5lbs of drag. Sometimes fishes just make it to where they have good leverage and bend the hook. Pic related was the fish, idk where the picture of the hook I took went.
