I got a jeb as a timber cruiser and theyre refunding $300 for work boots. What do you guys recommend for good outdoor work boots?

I was looking at Hathorn 110V Smoke Jumpers and started looking at Danners. Do these brands run big/small?

Any recommendations welcome. Also they have to be 8-10 inch tall.

Kennetrek or Scarpa. Smokejumpers are shit for non fire work. They are heavy as fuck and never quite stop blistering your feet if you walk miles in the woods every day. They are great boots, just not for cruising or marking.

Buying similar ones. Went hiking in Scotland but the trail turned into swamp. Had to go all the way home (Holland) because of it.

I got these Cats recently and I love them, they're S3 safety boots and are waterproof. I'm in construction so not really outdoors though.

I've got the Fort Lewis (non-insulated). I've also had the Mountain Light II and they're both solid as fuck. I wanted something taller than the Mountain Light so I got the Fort Lewis, they suit my aesthetic as well as super comfy to walk in. Gonna do a 300 mi+ backpack soon so I'll make a thread in a few months about that, the Danners included. I had a pair of Chippewa pole-climbers before this and they absolutely DESTROYED my feet last time I went /out/ and was doing 15 mile (yeah I know, not a lot) days.

That being said, the most I've done up to this point in the Fort Lewis has been a 6 mile day but my feet felt 100% great afterwards and I'm not a light person to say the least.

Drew's and White's are the best for wildland fire. If you're not doing wildland fire you don't need specialized boots. Any pair will work.

Apparently my great-great grandfather was a timber cruiser; he went by the nickname "Jackpine" (it was such a nickname when the papers wrote about him they mentioned it). I think you need to travel a lot around the area and know all the trails really well, but that's what I've gleaned from how you'd become one back then.

Just re-glued the sides of my Wolverines for the 2nd time. im a utility arborist in wyoming so im climbing/walking in trees in the heat and the frigid deep snow, and standing in tree crotches tear my boots to shreds. im gonna save up and get some JK Inlanders, mainly because 1) they seem like some really reliable and credible people, and 2.) i can always get my boots rebuilt and re-soled every year or 2

Go with White's or Nick's for firefighting, and watch out for their cheaper $300 models because they are NOT the same as their real deal $450 boots. Your feet are your life out here, don't cheap out and try to save $150 when you have $15,000+ that you'll be making over the course of the season riding on your boots.

As a logger i wear pic related, they're heavy, uncomfortable when walking uphill and the leather after half a year already looks super worn. But with my Husqy technical pants i can't really wear mid-height boots since the pants taper outwards at the bottom so when bending the low boots would be useless and i'd get a nice full load of saw chips.

Wa State native here, White's and Nick's are superb. They are a little tough to break in, but they will last you a long time. Also Hawthorn isn't bad, but they aren't the real deal, as another anon says.

Worth every penny.

Whites are the go to for 90% of career Forest Service folks who spend all day in the woods, I've had 2 pair over 25 years, had one pair rebuilt twice, and one rebuilt once. They are heavy but once you break your feet in(with Whites it's the feet you break in not the boots) you'll never accept anything else. It will take a week or two to get used to them.

That may work if you are going home every day, but on a 14 day firefighting deployment that works out to having to bring 28 pairs of socks. 56 pairs if you double-sock like most people I know! There's just no way... I usually change out my double socks every five days; makes it feel special when you do, and I only have to pack six pairs.
