In a pinch (say you're stranded), cutting a bit off the hem of a piece of your clothing and fluffing it (assuming you wore cotton boxers or something) will also go up.
Prep is key. Properly prepared tinder will catch, and having it on/in/against/etc. the not quite so fine materials and close enough not to waste the fine bits for starting the fire means you're likely to have success in most situations.
