Of course, I need to be somewhat paranoid. I carry more than enough food, always. I need to plan ahead, because insulin gets really effective when I'm exercising (seriously, 1 unit of fast-acting insulin brings down my blood sugar by ~30 mg/dL if I haven't been active all day. If I'm riding a fully loaded touring bike up a hill, it's more like 150 mg/dL). Predicting the lingering effects of exercise is another challenge.
