Does /out/ do horse riding? I ask because I recently found out I live surprisingly close to a stable, and I'd love to get into it. It seems like a lot of fun, and a great skill to have should SHTF. I'm aware that a lot of people romanticize it, and that there is a lot of shit shoveling and oiling of harness, but what's your honest opinion of it?

Also, make sure you have something to hold your nuts right or you'll land on 'em if you decide to gallop.

Maaaan... I live in a really horsey area in the uk and work on a farm and horses are a fucking pain in the ass. It's mainly (imho) down to the women that keep them. They coddle them so hard and get all scaredy whenever anything unusual is happening that I'm always having to cut the engine on my tractor when driving down the road or stand up and make myself known when I'm mending a hole in a fence, or move the quad bike when it's parked because 'precious doesn't like quad bikes' and they end up so fucking jumpy that their retarded owners think that's what theyre naturally like. Anyways. I like the idea of horses in big open wilderness places where they're a genuinely useful form of transport, but round here they're all just fuckign retarded.

Grew up riding horses, was riding before I could walk. Parents always had at least one, and still do.

Got into rodeo in college, did more of that than trail riding. Still did it when I went home though.

Now about the only time I ride horses is when I visit my parents.

Owning a horse however is a whole can of worms mixed with vet and stable bills that I'd be reluctant to get into mysel.
