Hey sc/outs/, I'm doing a 50 mile section of the AT in MA starting next sunday. I planned on doing a Section in the White Mtns., but the trail report and weather report up there looks pretty bad for next week, and I am out of time for a long trip due to IRL obligations. I am fine with going it alone, but if there is anyone interested in accompanying for all or part of it, let me know. Current plan is as follows. START SUN 12 MAY 175, Main Road, Tyringham, MA Night 1: around Upper Goose Pond (Campsite) (7mi) Night 2: around October Mtn. (Shelter) (8.8mi) Night 3: around Kay Woods (Shelter) (8.8mi) Night 4: around Crystal Mtn (Campsite (6.7) Night 5: around Mark Noepel (Shelter) (10mi) Night 6: around Wilber Clearing (Shelter) (7-10mi) END SUN 19 MAY Somewhere in North Adams, MA (5mi) It is not at all a hard section, and the mileage daily is very low, as I want to take my time and enjoy my little vacation. This is easily a 4 day section if you're trying, I'm stretching it to 7 mainly just because I have 7 days to burn.

26 year old White Male, plenty of backpacking experience including a 500mi yoyo of the Cumberland Gap to C&O canal. I have all my own gear, have the experience to use it effectively, and expect the same out of a hiking partner. Not saying that newish hikers aren't welcome, just saying that if you are using a framed pack for the first time and show up at the trailhead with 65lbs of gear and the tags still on it all, this may not be a good fit for you. Granted, it will be a "Take it easy" kind of hike.

if you're interested at all, e-mail is in the e-mail field, let me know! I'll bump this throughout the day. So it's not a useless thread, I guess general hiking thread GO!

I'm heading out to Lake Vesuvius Ohio next day or two if the sun comes out, kayaking/camping.
Sort of same boat as yourself, I'll be headed out lone wolf style.
...In a 40L pack, and under 30lbs. Haven't gotten it on the scale yet but I'm betting i'm close to 25 (without water)

>>107220 Oh, also note the TAD softshell is not in the bag, it will be hanging from that crossline I rigged up while hiking, I'll put it on when I'm cold or when it rains. Saved me about 3L of space.

im in NC and planning a trip with my buddy around the same time - too bad I think youre just a bit out of range. We're both much less experienced though - only been out a handful of times and are still getting our gear together speaking of - wheres your hatchet/folding saw for firewood gathering? do you plan on that stove being your only source of fire?

I hope you find someone to go with! I'm nowhere near you or I'd be totally in, you look like you know what you are doing.

>>107614 Why denatured? Just pick up some everclear or something that you can drink. Not to drink it, mind you, just to avoid all the nasty stuff if you accidentally leave residue. Methanol is nasty stuff.

I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon, solo. I figured that since I already have everything ready to go and packed up, might as well get on the trail. I'll be gone for at least a week, maybe longer depending on how I feel. See you guys later.
