>>1092937Let me break it down.
>BLMDo anything land, an odd case where to be free you must go on government land, usually the land is not very pretty. Nevada is 95% BLM. Typically offroader territory.
>National ForestThis is the money zone imo. NFS is usually lax and permissive of anything and they have beautiful forests as well. They don't do dumb things like ban guns and camp fires and you can find fantastic trails just don't expect to find them on google searches, buy a map and look at the trails yourself. The trails are technical and hard to find at times and even overgrown but I haven't yet seen another person on them or even that much evidence of people aside from trail wear. You can even get permits to cut certain trees for firewood within 100 feet of service roads.
>National ParksThe real tourist hot spot with nearly everything banned. I'm not fan because it's got lots of people, no shooting or camp fires, and entry fees. Never spent much time in one but camp fire bans is usually a deal breaker for me.
>State ParksDon't even bother. Here in California my local state park just has camping without a permit flat out banned, the parks are too close to civilization.
That's how I understand it. I used to think I could find good trails by googling for them, but I think the best method is just rolling into REI and buying a national forest map of whatever is close to you and picking random trails that look good. Those National Geographic trails illustrated maps are fantastic for navigation on non-normie trails. Pic related, you aren't going to find maps like this for free online.
