My Magellan GPS unit is a laggy piece of shit that requires the use of a 3rd part computer program to load the topo maps, and the software isn't even meant for this model GPS unit so you have to jump through retarded loops to actually transfer any data.
OTOH, my Nexus 7 supposedly has a GPS unit built in, and with an off-line map program, it is supposed to work as a GPS unit. However, off-line Google Maps doesn't even work (laggy piece of shit that lies about being truly off-line), so I'm hesitant to spend $90 in the app store for some shit program that may or may not work.
If OP's think could work, and it were a trail-rechargeable GPS unit with tablet-like functionality (responsive, touch-screen, enough memory to store more than 100 square miles of topo maps), I'd jump all over it.
