I can ration water during the day, but when I camp out I always wake up thirsty as fuck the next day and it depletes my water supply every time.

How to control morning thirst?

drink a litre of water by the time you break camp each day... you will need another litre or two by the end of the day. At least two litres per day per person, there is no way around it. You might last a few days on less water but you will always be approaching dehydration if you don't keep topped up.

does that mean you have no water available on your hikes? like you carry all your drinking water in?

my routine is that I bring a foldable bottle (3l or more) or water cat and fill it in the evening when I make camp, if needed I filtrate the water. Gives me enough water to make dinner, tea, have a sip for the night, breakfast and fill my canteen for the day.

Yeah with folding bottles and cheap lightweight gravity filters I don't see the point of not having all the water you could want.

And if you're in an arid location, intentionally dehydrating yourself seems even more stupid.

No, I could have phrased it better but I wrote this when I woke up this morning. Basically if I'm hiking for 8 hours I can usually manage a cup of water an hour to remain hydrated as a rule of thumb, but I have a tremendous thirst in the morning.
I end up filtering water from streams etc. But I do wonder how people ration their water unless they carry sacks of it with them.

You're thirsty because you aren't drinking enough water. That's it. You limit yourself to the bare minimum the previous day and then your body needs more the next.

I'm training my body to be less dependent on water in case SHTF.

If I just drink a bunch of water I'll ruin it.
