Went /out/ at like 9pm - 11:30pm to scout out some stuff here in Florida. Hiking in Florida at night is a damn unique experience for those who haven't done it; it quickly feels like you are in the jungle in a spoopy/awesome way. Also it is VERY loud (naturally, not artificial noise). I think a lot of people would hate it though, hah. Since I try to use my headlamp as little as possible (I of course use it when I feel it's needed and almost only with red-light. I know people say that it doesn't attract critters but I'm not so sure about that so I try ot minimize it, plus it makes the hike more enjoyable to just enjoy the night with no artificial light). My biggest concern by far is getting nibbled by a snake when I'm in the long-grass, secondly wild pigs, especially when you can smell them at night and here some rustling (could be an armadillo or something of course but at night the brain starts to play tricks for a few moments), and lastly stepping on an alligator that has decided to plop down between two bodies of water on either side of the trail.
Hiked about 3 miles out to were I was going to camp and scout in the morning but everything was flooded as hell beyond that point because the hurricane and it wasn't the time to figure out a route/depth of water/etc. so I'll have to check it out during the daytime to get over there.
