Not my story, but one I read somewhere. A guy was backpacking in the Pac NW for 3 days. It was pretty uneventful, just him and beautiful scenery. Except the first night he'd set up his tent by a stream and felt like he was being watched. He went into his tent and settle in to sleep. After a little while he could hear what sounded like a group of people outside laughing. It freaking him out, but he laid still and pretended to be asleep. This happened again the second night, and he just laid still again.
When he got back to town he told a local Native American about it. And the guy got real serious and told him it was good he didn't get out of his tent. The Native told him those were some kind of legendary hominids/cryptids that are known for their mocking laughter and will murder anyone that looks at them.
