How to not get scared of homeless people when sleeping outdoors. Every noise I hear will disturb me because I think it is a homeless person coming to attack me. I swear I could even smell meth near me last night. I really don't give a shit about lions/tigers/bears, but homeless people freaks me out when I sleep under the stars. How do you protect yourself from the homeless /out/?

Dress like a hobo and infiltrate a pack of them. Then gradually work your way up to being the leader of the group so that you have minions to do your bidding. I've always been assertive but friendly with the homeless I ran into and it seems to work out. You never let your guard down but you are cordial and polite. Most of them abide a sort of code and wouldn't go out of their way to hurt a stranger. I sometimes will offer a cigarette/ pinch of chaw or to warm by the fire or a squirrel I shot. If I'm in a group I'll toss them a beer. Sometimes one of them I have been kind to before will warn me of a danger around (woods pigs, meth lab/ still in the area.) As far as jumping at bumps in the night, you gotta grow up. Still, it wouldn't hurt to swap your rainfly for a dark colored tarp and keep your fire low.

Thanks for the replies. I think the pupper idea is good. The night I posted this I didn't have any weapons not even a multi tool so thats why I was scared. And the place I was sleeping was crawling with dirty hobos. I live in Hawaii so they are everywhere especially on beaches at night. It's not like sleeping in the woods and coming across a random guy living out in the woods. These are practically hardened city bums who I do not trust.

Gotta agree with /k/anon here. Mosin is a garbage gun. They always have been, the reason they were a meme on /k/ several years ago is because they were priced appropriately at ~$80, ammo at around 30¢/rd. Not any more thanks to good ol' Obongo, but that's a whole other can of worms. I haven't seen a -used- Mosin going for less that $250 in years.

If you're worried about it that much OP, just pick up an M&P9 Shield. It's a very compact pistol, comfortable to carry conceal IWB - It's really not even that bad to sleep with it on your person. They go for $350, but you can find them on sale for less all over the place. Takes 9mm which means you get to have fun shooting practice without breaking the bank.

If you're dead set on a rifle then get an AR-15, cheapest and most reliable option available to you at the moment.
