>>1108814It important to differenciate between homeless, travelers, bums and drug addicts (and yes, there is some overlap) if you actually want to reduce populations of homeless in your community.
A lot of homeless people simply lost their job and didn't have enough money in savings in order to cover their cost of living long enough to keep themselves housed until finding work. Consequently, their inability to maintain adequate hygiene to find employment caused a cyclical effect on their finances. These people would stop being homeless if they simply had access to a better shelter system than what currently exists in the US. Rarely are they drug addicts, most frequently they're simply mothers in a bad economy.
Travelers on the other hand, typically either have income such as disability, retirement, or seasonal work, or may spange or busk to cover expenses. These individuals choose to be homeless because having to commit to a specific region isn't conducive to their lifestyle. They won't leave until they're ready, but they will definitely leave. Drug use is typically limited to marijuana, and unrelated to their residential status.
Bums are the scum of the earth, reviled even by other homeless. They have no interest in finding work or maintaining hygiene, in particular, because their lack of hygiene is what inspires the pity that they use to guilt others into paying for their existence. Typically, bums will be drug addicts, and typically, that's how they became homeless. Getting rid of bums is particularly difficult because as long as people keep giving them money, they'll keep not working. The best thing you can do is offer to buy them food, but NEVER give them cash, and encourage your friends to do the same. If they can't afford drugs in your community, they won't stay in your community.
