They have a point OP. Responsible logging actually helps cut down on large fires and responsible land management has been shown to provide better big and small game environments.
to;dr Reasonable logging makes big game stronger and fires less frequent.

These fires were annoying because of the smoke but other than that it wasnt a big deal.

So how do you propose "thinning" forests? Oh thats right, logging companies clear huge swaths through the forests so their equipment and trucks can get in and they harvest the most mature and valuable trees. Yeah, I'd LOVE to go hiking and camp and hunt in the forest then. Just imagine, I can drive my truck right into the middle and camp out of my car!

Leave the forests alone. Let the rest of us appreciate them. Let our kids and their kids get to see what the world is meant to be. Keep wilderness wild.

I agree. Then the thick brush takes over and makes the area nearly impassable or makes it easier for predators to hide. The worst pat is it takes at least 500 years to fully recover to its former state.

Dead trees burn a hell of a lot better than the living trees, because they dry out a lot faster. So you cut them, or you let them burn. Stephen Pyne talks about 50-million-acre pre-settlement fire seasons, so letting it burn is pretty unattractive. The other side of the argument is that USFS-sponsored logging operations are often accused of taking too many big living trees because it's more profitable. Additionally, nearby residents are (understandably) usually unhappy about prescribed burns--wood smoke really is bad for you, and prescribed burns have been known to get out of control. As usual, there's no One Weird Trick to reconcile the various competing interests here.
