>>1108988i literally did that and it was great get a v6 station wagon and its great on the straights a little more expensive in the city area
either a commodore or a falcon is preferable just because of the proliferation of parts
when looking at the cars ones in the country are probably a better option because they will only have country miles on them instead of stop starting and turning relentlessly like in the city which wears the cars out quicker
things i suggest you do if you find a car that seems good put a deposit down on the car get a receipt from the owner and then have the rac come have a look at the car if your a member and you will want to be a member if your driving across australia anyways
once thats sorted and the car is mechanically sound have the car serviced then go to super cheap auto or repco and buy spare water hoses, timing belt, radiator coolant, oil, a cheap fuel container and distilled water
I'm not expecting you to fix the car but if you have parts for shit that commonly wears out when rac does arrive they can just fix the car instead of towing you to the nearest town
the reason i say this is insurance for towing can max out at like 100km so if your not close by somewhere you could be fucked and it would cost you thousands of dollars to have the car towed back to civilisation which is probably not economically viable
also get a wheel alignment your gunna be doing thousands of kilometers so if the wheels aren't aligned then tires will rub and wear out which may cause a flat tire
get the max roadside assist insurance with the max towing on it
when you stop at a road station or a major town (at least once a day) check luids like oil and radiator and shit like that so if something has happened your already somewhere it can potentially be fixed
