>>1109056jesus, /out/ is as bad as /diy/ with the spoon feeding.
all depends on where you live
do a web search with the search provider of your choice with the terms "tick born illnesses", "deer tick map", "black legged tick map" (same as a deer tick but locals call it different things), "lone star tick map".
i have no idea where you live, and i'm not going to do the searching for you. i only have to deal with deer ticks and lonestar ticks.
Lyme disease isn't really to be feared all that much unless your away from civilization for months. the quicker you're put on antibiotics the better the chances of beating it.
learn the names of the ticks in your area and how to identify them in their different stages, some stages are harmless.
god forbid you do get bit by a tick that carries something, save the tick so it can be tested. if your utterly clueless just save any tick you find feeding on you so it can be identified and possibly tested.
states and universities set out traps and collect ticks yearly and test them for diseases and publish maps or someone else does with the data. some parts of the US deer ticks don't even carry lyme disease.
i still wear shorts when its warm enough for them, and hardly use any insecticide or repellent. to the best of my knowledge in my 38 years alive i've never been bit by a tick. i've found plenty of deer and wood ticks crawling around on me though. i don't have any symptoms for lyme disease. my sister who lives 10 miles away has 2 dogs that test positive for lyme.
yes, dogs can get lyme disease. now lets watch /out/ flip.
