Even though they come with hammer style handles, they still have a sharp edge and are primarily hatchets.
In build wall countries they are called "kitchen hatchet".
And they're used to split small wood for the stove, behead chickens, hammer nails etc.
Homestead stuff basically.
The bit does not usually have hollow cheeks and a wide eye
I think they're well suited for bushcraft as is but of you want to modfy it by giving it a beard why not.
