Just got this guy in today. Johnny Morris Signature Series II baitcaster. Didn't get on the water today but took it out in the yard. This thing is smooth as butter. It's got 11 ball bearings and its so so sweet. I've got a Quantum that only has six and this new one is gonna spoil me. I threw it on a 7' St Croix Triumph Medium Power Fast action. This is my third St Croix rod and I love em.

Anyone else got some new fishing gear? Main reason I'm sharing this is because I use left handed retrieve on all my reels and I know we are limited to our choices in reels.

More ball bearings doesn't really mean it's better.

for instance 4 of those bearing are in the handle, two for each knob. It's extra weight for a unnoticeable change in how smooth the knobs turn.

Not to say its bad because it's certainly not but its luxury. Of course weight doesn't matter much unless you spend 6+ hours casting with it and even then learning a more relaxed grip will help more than anything.

I personally don't enjoy using left handed baitcasters as a righty which some people do. Are you a lefty? If you aren't i can see why you would prefer it and I don't discriminate. One of my favorite anglers does it as well.

It actually weighs less than my quantum does. I do everything right handed except retrieve on reels. It's faster for me that using a.right retrieve and having to move hands around. I do spend hours fishing when I do go.

Not saying paying a bit extra for the luxury is bad either.

Using left handed baitcasters as a righty probably benefits you the most when you are flipping and pitching as well. I don't practice it much so there a short period when the bait hits the water that if a bass picks it up I won't be ready to set the hook in time and I lose it. Sucks but it takes practice when using a baitcaster that fits you.

If you're right handed and using a right handing rod you have your right hand on the knob and left hand on the reel.

Btw OP you truly are a man after my own heart, i've gotten to try out a few of the higher end rods and reels and loved them, sadly i'm a poor fag so my main set up is a med heavy ambassador series abu Garcia rod with a black max reel, pretty good for the price but my brothers set up makes me want to cry

This is only my 3rd nice rod/reel. I've got several low tier shit. I've also got 4 Abu round grey baitcasters all of which are right handed. My grandfather owned them and oddly enough he was left handed at everything except fishing I guess. They have no magnetic breaking, only drag and spool tension. Sometimes ill cast them then flip upside down so I can left hand retrieve.

The rod came with the 70$ 5600 bcx combo at wal-mart. Broke the worm gear on the 5600 and replaced it with a silver max.

The rod has retardedly good quality for the price. I'm not even sure if you can get it separate but I've used it relentlessly for about 5 years.

It doesn't scruff or get scratched, no broken eyes. Small for most applications but has the weight and action to cover a lot of the techniques I use in my river.
